 Hello Families,

We have two new student teachers joining us from University of Calgary.

Hello, My name is Nina Raushan. I have recently moved from Toronto to Calgary, and I have decided to pursue teaching in Alberta. My educational background is in the field of political studies which was completed in Toronto. I am currently enrolled in a two-year after degree program in Werklund school of education in University of Calgary. I have teaching experience as a teacher assistant and my experience with children has been enriched by my interactions with my son. I love children and I am looking forward to teaching children in elementary school and part of their learning experiences.

Hello! My name is Cara Marshall, I am originally from Victoria, BC! I obtained my Psychology degree at the University of Victoria before moving out to Calgary to pursue my After-Degree in Education. I am specializing in Inclusive Education as I have previously worked as a behavior strategist and a youth counsellor for children living in mental health treatment programs.

I love supporting students and getting creative to optimize their learning potential! I believe every student can succeed with the right support and environment. I am enjoying my time working with Mrs. Scherer's class and have begun to teach Social Studies 5 and Science 6. The students have blown me away with their initial introductions, polite and friendly attitudes, and willingness to get to know us. I have had so much fun getting to know each student and look forward to teaching them over the next four weeks!

Thank you for all your material donations for our instrument building and thank you to our parent volunteers! The students had an amazing time and were so excited when they're instruments "actually worked".

In Math, we continued to explore Order of Operations and played a super fun game of Order of Operation Jeopardy that can be found in the Google Classroom. We are eager to start Coordinate Graphing on a Cartesian Plane when we return from the break!

Students did an amazing job presenting their Canadian Regions and Ancient Athens Presentations to the class. Students worked to project their voice, add enthusiasm when approaching important points, had eye contact with the audience, and engaged with their slides.

We have been working on Story Writing. Students are learning step by steps the elements and the process of writing a story. They have been learning about building suspense, including dialogue, character development, and introducing the problem. They have been developing very interesting stories over the past two weeks.

We will begin gymnastics in our regularly scheduled gym classes on April 4th.  The gymnastics unit will last two weeks.  Safety routines, cooperation and sportsmanship are taught and reviewed in each class.

This physical activity opportunity will help students acquire individual skills through a variety of developmentally appropriate movement activities.

It is important for students to come to school prepared to be actively engaged. The following guidelines are very helpful…

HEAD TO TOE - READY TO GO!!!

Head ....................... long hair pulled back

Ears/Throat/Wrist ............... jewellery off

Shirt.................................. one layer shirt

Waist ................................................tucked in

Pants.........................sporty pants or shorts, no belts or zippers

Ankles..........................pants rolled up if ankles are covered

Toes...............running shoes, gymnastic slippers or bare feet (no footed tights)

“Playing & moving safely is everyone’s responsibility”
