Friday, November 4
Hi Families,
We had a busy week leading up to City Hall School, especially with Halloween and PJ Day thrown into the mix. It was so nice to see families and students participating in the Halloween Parade.
Ms. Quinteros has been with us for two weeks now. She has done a great job of connecting with the students and designing engaging lessons. We are excited to continue working with her for the next month.
The snowy weather was the perfect weather for us to complete a footprint analysis examining the difference between running and walking strides, along with the depth of a footprint when doing different activities.
While looking at the four Pillars of Democracy and focusing on Justice, students studied different child activists around the world. They read articles, pulling out important information. Students are now putting their writing skills to work and writing paragraphs about their activists with a focus on conventions, punctuation, and using a variety of sentence types.
In Math, we continue to work with patterns, finding the pattern rule, and communicating it using a variable. We have just begun transferring the table of values in patterning questions into line graphs. We are focusing on incorporating all the elements of a graph and understanding the different between linear and non-linear graphs.
City Hall School
City Hall School is next week! The students and I are very excited to be taking our learning downtown. We are going to meet so many engaging people and see/ a lot of new sights and sounds. To help prepare you child for a successful week please ensure that they:
- Wear clothing suitable for November weather. A jacket, layers of clothing, light gloves, and a warm hat are a good idea. As the group will be walking, both indoors and outdoors, for the majority of the day, appropriate footwear (warm and comfortable) are necessary for walking through urban environment, using stairs and crowded concourses.
Remembrance Day: How You Can Help Make a Positive Change in the Lives of Veterans
Poppy Fund Donations
Students will be given a poppy on November 10th while honoring Remembrance Day at school. If you would like to send in a monetary donation to support the Poppy Fund that day, it would be greatly appreciated. You can also show your support by donating online through following the link: https://legion.ca/donations
MOMMS Pet Food Drive
To support Veterans and their dogs, our community pet store is collecting donations. These items will help support the pets that bring so much comfort and happiness to those who have served our country. Please send any donations to school with your child, on or before November 10th. They will be dropped off by Room 7 and 8. See the information below for donation details.
Healthy Hunger
Fun Lunch is back! Starting Thursday, November 3rd Lake Bonavista School Council will be organizing a Fun Lunch every other week on Thursdays. For parents new to Healthy Hunger. You will need to create an account on the healthy hunger website and then add your student to the correct school and class from the drop down menus.
Ordering Lunches
Once vendors are confirmed they will be added to the calendar for your selection. You can order as little or many days as you like. You can place orders for multiple days and multiple children all at once and pay at the end. Or you can place orders weekly. Payment is done online through Healthy Hunger, no payments are made to school.
Deadline for ordering is 5 days in advance. So all orders must be placed by that time. So for Thursday meals, orders must be placed by 11:59pm on Saturday. In order to give the vendors time to order and prep.
Cancelling an order
If you need to cancel a lunch you can do that until the cut-off period which is 5 days before each lunch and get a refund. However with more absences due to symptoms cancelling in advance may not always be an option.
Lunch Delivery
On the specified day lunch is delivered to the school for the students. We will require a few volunteers to help distribute to the class, so please make sure you are on our volunteer contact list if you would like to help. This is only for the lunch orders so please remember to pack a snack and water with them for the rest of the day. Or a complete lunch if you did not order that day.
Missed Fun Lunches
For those times you miss the option to cancel, and your child won’t be there due to sickness or any other reason, we ask that you please contact the school by 11:30am on the day of Fun Lunch to choose an option. Your options are to:
- Pick the lunch up by the end of the day.
- Send it home with a sibling.
- Donate it to the staff room.
Unfortunately due to allergies etc. we can’t give to another child without their guardian’s consent. Any lunches that aren’t claimed by the end of the day will be composted.
