Hello Families,

In math, we continued exploring how place value can enhance our understanding of numbers. Our learning goal for for the past few weeks is "We will be able to identify and show place value and numbers up to 10 000 000. This week we reflected on our learning this far, and students filled out what they have learned and asked to show evidence under the "Proof" section of their learning. Students were also asked to reflect on their understanding by placing a red, yellow, or green dot to communicate their understanding of this concept. Here is an example of two students reflection pages and the traffic light system.

Students are now working on their place value reflection project to show what they know if a creative way. Ask your child what their math reflection project is!

During social, we continue to dive into Local Government, effective note taking practices, and research. we reviewed jot-noting and what successful jot notes look like. Students were assigned a Local Government Infographic Task to complete while working in small groups. They are to become experts on this topic and will create an infographic to share their expertise with their classmates. We have just completed the research phase this week.

We took time in writing this week to get back to basics. We reviewed simple, compound, and complex sentences. We talked about the importance of using a variety of sentence types while writing to keep the reader interested. As we were taking notes on sentences, we talked about the effective use of acronyms and highlighting. Everyone did a very great job of picking up the different sentence types. As a class we played Sentence Jeopardy, it was a super fun and engaging way to review sentences. Congratulations to team FANBOYS on their Jeopardy win! I have linked the jeopardy above if you wanted to take a look.

Finally, the Totem Animal Art  inspired by the book Sometimes I Feel like a Fox by Danielle Daniel is complete. Students then chose an animal that they felt best represented them and 3 of the characteristics that they connected with the most. Here are some of the amazing work!
